Hi everyone,
Networking isn’t marketing at scale. It’s one-on-one conversations at scale.
It starts with finding the right people and contributing to them in small ways. Maybe you connect with them. Maybe you like their post. Maybe you set up an informational interview.
One way to do this is to share what you’re doing out loud. John Stepper wrote a book on it called Work Out Loud. Post about a job you’re applying for, why it excited you, and how you customized your resume. Share one thing you learned from a recent informational interview. You don’t need to sound polished. You need to be specific.
When you work out loud, you start a conversation someone else can continue. A person who reads your post can reply, make an introduction, or tell you about a role you didn’t know existed. You can’t get that from a resume.
This week we’ll use a ChatGPT exercise to find thought leaders and professionals who can help you get into your target companies. We’ll finish with social media practices for keeping your online presence working for you.
