Hi everyone,

Welcome to Career Circles.

People hire you for what you can do. What you’ve done is the proof. A strong story tells people what you want to do, then uses your background to show why you’re credible.

Say you want to be an accountant. You watched your parent work at an accounting firm. You entered a couple of accounting case competitions and wrote for an accounting blog. You volunteered as the controller for your church. Put those together and you can tell a story that makes you a credible accountant before you’ve held the title.

You have experiences like these. They come from the same places: family, classes, clubs, and volunteer work. Most students just haven’t looked there yet.

Sharing what makes you unique can be uncomfortable, because it’s a form of vulnerability. Don’t armor up. Own it.

That’s why we start with your circle: five other students and one mentor, every week for six weeks. Your mentor goes first. Brené Brown’s work says trust builds when someone shares something real and the other person doesn’t use it against them. That’s the standard for your group.

In session we’ll do an icebreaker, talk about vulnerability and trust, and build your Coat of Arms. The Coat of Arms is a drawing of what shaped you and what you want next. It doesn’t need to look good. It’s the first draft of your story.

Six weeks won’t guarantee you a job. It will give you a story you can tell.

Thanks! Avi
